Does the military give you any kind of ID card after three years of service and an honorable discharge?

I've been told by more than one person that I should have gotten some kind of ID card after my discharge from the Army. Not a regular military ID, but maybe a verteran ID card?

  1. Nope, not true. You only get one if you retire from the military.
  2. DD-214, if you retire, you get a card that looks like the old style (pre-CAC) military ID and Dependent card.
  3. Nope, sorry, they don't do that. The only thing you'll get is a pat on the back and a thank you very much.
  4. No ID card but you do get a DD 214.
  5. Only way to get an ID card is retire of if you are a disabled veteran you may get a veterans card for use in Veterans medical facilities for treatment. Yoour DD form 214 is you proof of service.
  6. When I got out of the Navy they gave me a TAMP card (transition assistance). You are supposed to get 6 months of Tricare and a few other things...but it is only good for 6 months. The TAMP card is pink like a depend ant ID. I don't think that everyone qualifies for it. I don't know the conditions of your separation/service. But I do know that they are extend some benefits for separating members. I put a link about it. You can see if you fall under one of the categories. The TAMP program is somewhat new. It started in the past couple of years. Also check with the VA and see what they can do for you. You should sign up with your nearest VA center so when you go to use benefits you will be in the system (health care, loans, education) VA cards are something different. **I did not retire.
  7. you have to go to your local VA center and get things there taken care of you should have had to go there after you were discharged with your dd214. (release form) I hope you dont mind me asking but 3 years of service and an honorable discharge did something happen is it cause of medical... the military will not tell you of the things you are able to get cause truth is they dont want to give it. My husband found out things that he was able to get after joining a VFW and talkin to the members. If you have served time over seas then you can go to a vfw (veterans of foreign wars) if not you need to go to a VA center or a basic veterans post, if you go to a vfw they will help you find a post that you can go to and they might be able to help you more. GL
  8. If you RETIRE from the military, you will receive a retired ID card. That's it. Retired counts as retiring after X years or being medically retired, but you must be retired in some fashion. The only thing you have to prove you've served and served honorably is your DD214, which is why it's SO important that you hold onto it.
  9. no. only RETIRED personnel receive an ID card after leaving Active Duty
  10. NO! All you need is your DD-214 and your Honorable Discharge certificate! or plaster your vehicles and home with flags, posters, stickers, etc... of you branch of the military! seriously, You need to go to the VA and get a Medical Disability Rating, a military organization such as DAV, Military order of the Purple Heart, American Legion, VFW, etc... can help you with the paperwork! The process is long and tedious(about a year), then you can get a VA ID card showing that you are a veteran! Why not stay in the Reserves, ARNG, State militia?!
  11. There are only a few reasons that someone will be given an id card after their discharge. Those who retire will get an ID for life, along with their spouse and children until the kids reach either 18 or 21. also, when you get discharged and have to serve in the reserves for a fw years, you are given an id that looks like a dependent's id but i think that the little circles are green instead of orange/tan. If you were discharged early, you might not have been given the opertunity to be in the reserves. all depends on your discharge and what the reason was. hope this helps
  12. No you can only receive Vet ID card after you have retired,..... you dont get access to the military base after only serving a few years... you do get access to the VA hospital and your GI bill but 3 years isnt enough for life-time coverage....
  13. YES you do get one. i just got mine 2 weeks ago. It is not a regular military id car but a veteran one. You have to go to you VA office with your DD214 and the will ask you how much was your income for last year and they base it off of that state.
  14. For the life of me I cannot understand why people continue to answer military questions that they have no clue about. People please stop. The answer is Yes. In the military you have an eight year obligation. If you served 3 years on active duty you are technically now an inactive reservist for the next 5 years. You can get a reserve ID from the branch of service you were in if you go to any ID/deers station. However it won't really do anything for you becuase you are not in any kind of paid status.
  15. you can get a veterans card through the VA if you are service connected. other than that NO
