ID Badges

is a ID Card required in California or optional to have?

I was following up on the license and ID cards and would like to know if the ID cards recently issued are required to take with you when you walk or bike or no. Not a License, but an ID card.

1. I think the ID card is just what you can get for photo ID if you don't qualify for a driver's licence.
2. The California supreme court has held that you can be arrested if you are not able to provide an ID card so yes you must carry proof of who you are. besides you do not want to be deported to some foreign country like Mexico if you were caught without one, think of all the difficulty returning, you might have to walk a few blocks and possibly climb through or over a fence. ~
