  1. tax id card is for businesses that buy products for resale so that they dont pay tax on itial purchase. SS card is personal id
  2. A Social Security number is one of the types of tax ID numbers. Some of the others being EIN (Employer Identification Number) and ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). Various uses of the tax ID requires specific types as those numbers verify qualification for various benefits. For example an EIN on an application for SSA would not identify the Social Security account of the taxpayer.
  3. S.S. card is for employed people who are U.S. citizens. The tax I.D. card is for non citizens who work in the U.S. so they can pay their taxes here or those who form a business for legal and tax reasons.
  4. A tax ID card would also have a set of nine-digit numbers just like SS card. However, it does not authorize the tax ID cardholder to work in US. It merely allow the cardholder to open bank account, purchase property, or pay taxes.
