How to make an ID badge?

I have to make an ID badge for a music class. Does anyone know if there's a link that can give me a guidline on how to do it or any ideas welcome. It has to be made on the computer and I have no clue where to start or what kind of document to do it in. 10pts for best answer! Thanks

Using Word there is a template for it already You will have to buy the labels In my Word, it shows NAME BADGE #5095---might see if you can find that at your stationary store If you use Avery it has that number and when you go into Tools--Envelopes and Labels.. In Word you select that Avery number so it properly formats it when you print them Of course you have to type all the names before you print them
