- Generally nothing much in and of themselves, but they have your social security and name on them so they could be used for identity theft. Tell him to monitor his credit closely for the next few months. I always hate when things like that happen. They are a pain in the butt to deal with. I wish ya'll the best of luck. EDIT: To ~~Army Wife~~. He said that his brother lost his ID tags and not his ID card. ID tags are fairly easy to replace and you do not even need to go through the military or chain of command to do so. All in all, his chain of command doesn't really need to know and it really is not that big a deal except that it could lead to identity theft. It is more of a personal problem rather than a military one.
- Worst thing in losing your dog tags is that your serial number is your social security number and it is matched with the correct name. This is the start of Identity theft if your thief has any smarts at all.
- Nothing, he can get new ones issued when he returns.
- It's been a while since I was in the military. Do dog tags still have the social security number on them? If so, that could be a problem.
- The worst things that can happen are things in the civilian world, such as Identity theft. In the corps world, all he has to do is just request a replacement set, if he is stateside then they should be delivered in just a couple of days.
- Thanks... I have removed the info that I posted... I read it wrong.. I saw card instead of tags it happens everyone makes mistakes and misreads things here and there sometimes. I apologize that is what happens when you are on cold meds and back meds at the same time.
- if reported right away nothing. just like an id card if not reported you can get an article 15.
