Is it ok to wear for military wives to wear their husbands ID Tags?

Also are they ID Tags or Dog Tags? How many sets is he supposed to have? When I was in you were issued 2 sets, one to wear and one for the SRP packet, is that still the way it is?

  1. No, your husband must wear them. That's why they were issued to him. Officially they're called ID Tags, but everyone has referred to them as Dog Tags for decades.
  2. No ! The info contained on the dog-tags is specific to the person named. That is for medical / forensics / etc. in case the soldier is unconcious, or dead.
  3. They are ID tags but have been nicknamed dog tags (as in dog face, a slang term for a soldier). As far as a wife wearing her husbands...if he has an extra set I don't see the harm, especially if he is deployed. If there is no extra set....No, he always needs to wear them for the intended purpose...identification.
  4. Is it okay for wives to wear their husbands ID tags? Yes? I personally do not like it when other wives display them. Just like I dont like it when I see wives wearing their husbands uniform pieces, like it is a fashion statement or something. I did not earn the privilege of wearing the uniform, therefore I will not disrespect it by wearing it as if I did earn the privilege. Not PTs, not patrol caps, and I dont even have one of those purses made of ACU fabric with rank and unit patches on them. I know wives are proud of their husbands, but I think it is disrespectful to the uniform to wear it in any way other than the way it was intended to be worn. Just my 3 cents.
  5. I served in the Navy and Army. In each service, I was issued only one set. Each set included two tags and two chains (one long and one short). I believe the official military name is "Identification Tags" or "I.D. tags" for short. "Dog tags" is a common nickname. Their purpose is to identify the wearer when the wearer cannot speak for themself. I checked Army regulations (AR 600–8–14). It does state that military personnel who are issued Identification Tags must wear them in certain situations. Although it is possible to classify this as impersonating military personnel which is illegal, I have never heard of anyone being prosecuted for it, especially a spouse. Why not wear a photo locket with his picture in it?
  6. I have a pair of my sons. He is serving. I keep them around my rear view mirror in my van where I spend alot of time. I see them and they move around to remind me that he is away fighting for all of our freedoms. I am not sure of the protocol, if any. I know he has a pair that he wears. You can order additional ones, so I would not think anything would be wrong with a wife wearing them. They are issued 2 official pairs. One to wear around their necks and one to put in their boots.
